ENTER SHIKARI - MEAN FIDDLER - SATURDAY 23RD APRIL Enter Shikari play their biggest show to date at the Mean Fiddler tonight.
It’s a strange affair for all involved. After all, this is one of the most
prestigious venues on the circuit. This is step up, a new chapter for Enter
Shikari. Talking with the band before the show it’s clear that they’re chilled
out and taking it in their stride. Management however, seem to be shitting it…
The lights go out and the crowd go fuckin’ insane. 30 seconds pass and
they’re still going insane! It’s evident that almost every person in this half
filled (and respectably half filled), venue is here to see Enter Shikari.
Starting with the usual intro and then the crowd are thrown straight into 'Labryinth'.
Bassist Chris Batten slams his guitar up and down like his life depends on it.
New song ‘Return to Energizer’ sounds huge through the mighty Fiddler P.A and
goes down a storm as the superb Roughton Reynolds throws himself off the side
wedges and drum riser. The energy onstage between these four is immense and the
crowd are smitten.
‘We can breathe in space’ and ‘Johnny Snipes’ also impress tonight as this
superb and unfortunately short (bloody support bands overrunning!), set of old
and new comes to an end. ‘Anything can happen in the next hour’ almost takes the
roof off as the pit goes mental. Roughton runs and rolls around the stage likes
it’s still the first song and the rest of the band go with his energy. Last song
‘Sorry you’re not a winner’ gets going for 10 seconds before the venue pulls the
plug as ES have already overrun by 5 minutes. The band could only look on as 100
or so fans carried on signing the song right to the end. It speaks for itself –
it’s all there for the taking for Enter Shikari. It’s just a matter of time.
