band based in Glasgow, they play rock music full of
irregular timings, complex structures and yet manage to
keep their music cohesive and melodic. With influences
stemming from the cure right through to At The Drive In,
thisfamiliarsmile have a mixed plethora of influences
that are evident from the moment the sound hits your
ears one at a time.
In the spring of 2001
thisfamiliarsmile were playing under a different moniker
by the name of Cerebra. Cerebra had a fruitful life but
somehow never really targeted the band in the way they
were heading, so after a few member changes
Thisfamiliarsmile were born.
In the summer of 2002 thisfamiliarsmile grew in
direction, mind and determination to make music that
infused the unsurpassed elements of there favourite
bands together to ultimately sing for what they believed
in. With a carefully knitted structure and a fresh new
crew, thisfamiliarsmile were ready to set in motion the
fruits of there intricate labour. March 2003 saw the
first live show of thisfamiliarsmile and with a bellow
for the three-strong crowd it was evident that
thisfamiliarsmiles carefully knitted plan had an immense
effect. Since then thisfamiliarsmile have worked harder
and harder from each achievement to better the last, and
ultimately to better themselves. 2004 saw the rewards
from the bands endless hard work with a New E.P. no
decay the scene and an ever growing fan base attending
gigs at King Tuts, The Barfly, nice n Sleazeys and the
Garage.
2004 also saw a great collaboration with Fierce Panda
Records who have released tracks from Coldplay, Death
Cab For Cutie, Keane, boy kill boy and seafood to name
but a few, to release Plagiarism is the new theft from
the E.P. no decay the scene on the best of Scotland
sampler titled Glowing Underground. With 2004 ending on
a high, thisfamiliarsmile were on carving there name and
gaining respect from the impenetrable alternative music
scene, which was giving the band the strength to grow
and grow.
In 2005 thisfamiliarsmile saw many moments that would
change their career forever, the first of these was the
main support for almost all of the bands influence them
which Included Minus the bear, Criteria, Settlefish to
name but a few, but it was in the summer of 2005 that
really stands out because of the bands appearance at
T-in-the-park, from T-in-the-park the band received a
spring board in the light of record company scouts and
managers alike. The second of these were the release of
the E.P. titled sew yourself a heart, which sold over
500 copies and finally gave the band he fan base they
longed after. After the explosion of T-in-the-park
thisfamiliarsmile were growing as a band and finally had
a product to be proud of.
With the end of 2005 nearing a close
thisfmailiarsmile, with a small budget and a big idea
decided to record the current E.P. days we turn on
ourselves to give themselves the best possible 2006 and
with over 300 sales in 5 moths there off to a great
start. And now they have added their fifth member, his
name is Neil and he used to play guitar in a band called
A Silent Farewell, he now plays synth, keys etc for
thisfamiliarsmile, please welcome Neil. |
